Keuka College is a unique type of university that values hands-on and experiential learning. When we were approached to help redesign their site, we were pleased with the opportunity because a university site is such a unique opportunity.
The Challenge:
Like many large organizational sites, one of the biggest challenges is trying to serve the needs between the organization, the individual departments, the current students, and the prospective students. That’s a lot of groups of people to please!
The Solution:
We collaborated with the project manager to conduct card sorting and user research to help determine the best way to re-organize the site’s content strategy and its navigation. We also put together user personas based on real students so that we could strive for better empathy with them as well as a persona for the site itself.
After that, we made wireframes to help determine the layout of the site and how to best prioritize the information according to each user’s needs without sacrificing the needs of others.
Finally, once the site’s architecture was designed, I designed the interface and did the front-end development of the main website’s theme files to bring it all to life.
The Result:
Staff and current students rated the website much higher in terms of satisfaction and ease-of-use. We might have even heard the word “sexy”.
